Overview:
The Youth Tool Clinic is an effort to provide young people who have little or no experience working with tools some basic training. Hands on experience for using hand tools, yard tools, concrete and lawn mowers is provided. Multiple, parallel activities covering each targeted skill occur on one Saturday, generally in May or June. A community resource such as McLean House is scheduled as the venue. West Linn Lion Club members and community volunteers with the required skills provide the training. Four sessions of 50 minutes each offer experience using post hole diggers and shovels, lawn mowers and other yard equipment, mixing cement, and using hammers, drills and other hand tools. The goal is for the attendees to have the hands-on experience of learning each skill. We use community resources such as schools to recruit 25 youth ranging in age from 11 to 17 years old. We provide the publicity (e.g., publications such as the West Linn Tidings) to recruit youth needing the skills and to educate the community about the activity. Local community businesses are recruited to sponsor the event, some providing tools and some providing services, Upcoming Event: The West Linn Lions will be conducting a Youth Tool Clinic boys and girls (Ages 11 yr to 17 yr) on Sat May 9, 2020 from 9 am to 3 pm at McLean Park, 5350 River St in West Linn, OR Registration: Registration will be limited to 25 participants.Registration shall include a parental/guardian signature.
