Overview:
Each year, the West Linn Lions Club (WLLC) provides 3 or 4 scholarships to West Linn graduating seniors. The scholarships have been in the range of $6,500.00 to $13,000 annually and have totaled more than $147,500 in the last 17 years. The primary scholarship funding mechanism has been our annual wine raffle. Local wineries donate wine through our 501(c)(3) Lions Foundation of West Linn and Club members sell tickets in September and October. In Novembert, 36 raffle winners are awarded. Cash contributions, also through the 501(c)3, are encouraged with confirmation available for tax purposes, if desired. A key component of our success has been the Club covering all expenses, so every dollar raised goes directly to scholarships. Scholarship Eligibility: The West Linn Lions Club intends to offer scholarships each year to West Linn graduating seniors, including those enrolled at West Linn High School, Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences. or Riverside (previously Art Tech) High School. Details on how to apply for scholarships are posted sometime in the 1st quarter of each year. |
Endowment:
The Club has established an endowment to provide a more permanent funding source for our scholarship grants. Already the endowment has grown enough to fund one of the scholarships. As it continues to grow, the Club will be able to either provide more scholarships or increase the amount granted. We accept tax-deductible donations through our Lions Foundation of West Linn, a 501(c)(3) certified non-profit entity. |
